    Arts Council Silicon Valley Job Description: Director of Communications Arts Council Silicon Valley (ACSV) is a 26-year-old, independent nonprofit, dedicated to supporting the arts and culture in our community by providing funding, advocacy and support services to the region’s arts organizations and artists. The Director of Communications reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for planning, developing and implementing an effective external and internal communications program that supports the organization’s mission, vision and values. Areas of responsibility include web-based communication, written reports and other collateral, media relations, collaborations with partner and peer institutions, and Board relations. The Director of Communications also works with Grantmaking, Advocacy, Development and the Artsopolis Marketing teams to ensure that their programs are served and represented with appropriate messaging and branding initiatives.


    RESPONSIBILITIES: - Writing, editing and production of all ACSV messaging, communications and publications, including an annual report, bi-monthly e-newsletter, press releases, Board communications, event invitations and other collateral; - Overseeing the improvement and maintenance of the Arts Council’s website; - Handling all media activities, including developing stories, writing press releases and editorials, pitching and placing stories, maintaining a database of media contacts, and serving as spokesperson as needed; - Coordinating all advertising planning and placement activities; - Coordinating major mailing activities and maintaining the organizations contact list in a database; - Proactively seeking opportunities for partnerships; - Working cooperatively with Development staff to plan and develop publicity strategies for special events, including packaging, solicitation and fulfillment of sponsorship agreements; - Assisting Development in researching new funding opportunities; - Representing the organization at a variety of events; - Assisting Executive Director and other staff in preparing public presentations; - Developing convening opportunities and disbursement of advocacy-related messages on behalf of the arts; - Developing and implementing a Board relations function that enhances the Board’s efforts to support the success of the organization.


    QUALIFICATIONS: - A minimum of 8 years of communications, marketing and/or P.R. experience; - 3-5 years experience supervising staff and managing budgets; - Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines; - Excellent written and verbal communication skills; - Demonstrated ability to write and produce high quality materials with limited financial and human resources; - Experience working with vendors, including printers, graphic designers and mail houses; - Computer and internet savvy, proficient in MS Office (Word, Powerpoint and Excel). Filemaker a plus; - Preferably local to the bay area and familiar with the issues facing the Silicon Valley region; - Experience in both the public and corporate sectors is preferred. Experience in nonprofit or philanthropic sectors is a plus; - Availability to represent the organization at a variety of events as appropriate; - Team player with excellent interpersonal skills. This position will report to the Executive Director and is a full-time position with health/dental/vision coverage, and pension benefits. Salary range based on experience. No relocation expenses.
