This is by far the best in family entertainment performed by quadruple-threat actors...i.e. both stars can act, sing, direct and produce!!! And the two stars have perfected each and every one of the 24 characters and their timing with quick changes (each actor played 11 characters) was impeccable. A great night out!!!!! Rebecca Gilman's breakout play is timely and thought-provoking. Not merely deep and socio-political, it packs good laughs while packing some things you're unsure whether you should laugh at. And that's part of the point. The lead performances are very good. The supporting leads also do well, though their portayals are a bit more caricatured than the realism of the script could justify (a realism that the set superbly augments). The Newyorican student brought good punch at the right times. A couple of supporting roles come a bit shorter of their characters' full potential, but serve the greater story well enough. This thought-provoking, entertaining play was among the first by a brilliant contemporary playwright, and this production deserves an audience. Collapse

I have been a theatre goer for over 25 years now. I have seen every show you can think of done in every imaginable way you can think of. What a surprise and delight to watch the cast of Ragtime perform this last weekend. When I was asked to attend the performance, I must say I was hesitant. How could such a small company do something as large as Ragtime? Impossible. I thought...No way they will be able to pull off this huge production and still maintain the intimate, intertwining storyline. I was not only pleasantly surprised but fully entertained. The actors were superb. From the major roles to the smaller walk-ons. At no time did someone on stage not stay in the moment of his character and make me believe what I was seeing. The voices were strong. You could tell they loved what they were doing and wanted to do nothing but a first rate performance. Sets and costumes were some of the best I have seen. Orchestration was right on the money. Bravo to cast, crew and direction. Collapse

I had to drag my husband to Ragtime's pre-opening because my friend was in the ensemble. Going to a community theater musical isn't his idea of fun, but by the end of the show he was as impressed and moved as I was. The production was very professional and the cast did a great job. We had a wonderful time and hardly noticed the long running time. I'm recommending it to everyone I know. Collapse

The cast, music, and sets were all amazing! I went on opening night and the show was so polished that it seemed like closing night. When the show was finished, I was left wondering why the SDG didn't use a larger theater for this performance. They could fill any large theater in the country with this kind of high caliber performance. I am considering going again before the show ends! Collapse
